Victim was threatened by tormentors to remain silent ; cabbie among five persons arrested

STAFF REPORTER MUMBAI The Dadar police were left stunned after they registered a case in which

five people, including a taxi driver raped a 16- year- old girl. The police revealed that the minor was sexually assaulted at least on four occasions before she spilt the beans on being confronted by her family and neighbors. Subsequently, the victim filed a complaint of alleged rape with the assistance of her close kin. Police immediately acted on her complaint and arrested five of the accused involved in raping her. The police are on the lookout for another accused.

The officials stated that the culprits used protection, which may hinder at the stage of gathering evidence.

According to the Dadar police, the accused, Mahesh Mane, Hitesh Kalokh and Ashwin Murudkar ( all 19- year- old), 18- year- old Pawan Angre and 44- year- old taxi driver Anand Landge, had protective sex with the victim on four different occasions over a period of two weeks.

Senior Inspector of Dadar police, Ashok Unde said, ” The girl was raped by them on several occasions at different locations. The accused threatened the girl of dire consequences if she spilt the beans to either her friends or family members and sexually exploited her till the cat was out of the bag. The accused who are residents of same area, have made our task a little difficult to prove their complicity in the rape, by having protective sex with her.” The police stated that on May 4 Mahesh invited the girl to his home on the pretext of needing her assistance to cook food for him as his family was out of town.

Once she entered into Mahesh house, Pawan and he allegedly locked her in a room.

While Mahesh raped her, Pawan kept a watch at the door. Later they left her and threatened her against revealing about Mahesh sexually assaulting her. On May 7 their friend Hitesh took the girl to an isolated spot near the Worli Sports Club ground and repeated the heinous act.

Questions are being raised as to how could the girl accompany Hitesh alone to the spot after undergoing the gory act not more that a week ago. Unde added, ” She was traumatized and was constantly threatened by the accused. She may not have anticipated that the incident would be repeated again. But we are probing the details.” The officials however, revealed that the accused raped the girl using protection, which may prove as a roadblock while gathering scientific evidence. The girl was again raped on May 30 at an unknown location and the following day one of the accused took her along with taxi driver Landge in his cab ( MH02- R- 4759) and both allegedly raped her. The incident took place at an isolated spot near Kirti College.

While this was happening, the victim did not return home on May 26, but was found the following day from near her house, added officials.

Following this, the victimalt39s parents saw changes in her behavior and confronted her.

On May 31 she spilt the beans, following which, the family registered a case with the Dadar police on Thursday.

Soon after the five accused were arrested, while one Vicky Mohite fled from the area. The sleuths said that the victim has a younger brother and sister and her father works as a peon in a hospital.

The police have registered a case of gang rape and criminal intimidation against the 6 accused and are on the lookout for Vicky. The accused have been remanded to police custody till Thursday, by Bhoiwada Court.
