Ujjain : Commercial Tax Department unearthed alleged tax evasion worth Rs 4.25 crore by a group of coal dealers operating in Nanakheda area here on Thursday. The firms are registered as Shubham, Sarthak and Anupam trading, dealing in coal business.
The department carried out a search at registered premises of dealers at Nanakheda and shop located in rural area. Registers and cash memos of suspected transactions were seized by the officers. Assistant Commissioner Sonali Jain said, the department has asked them to deposit the tax otherwise action would be initiated against them. During investigations, it came to light that several files related to tax were also missing from the department, inquiry on which has been initiated by the department. However, the department is claiming that it has spare copies of missing files and it has also lodged a police complaint about it.
The department also seized 2 cars, 2 bikes and some house hold accessories, in the raid. When the department initiated the inquiry, it found that several dealers had not deposited tax to the department of the sale and purchase.
They could not produce the documents related to sale and purchase. Sources say these dealers allegedly evaded Value Added Tax (VAT) by showing wrong inputs. The record of movement of goods was also not found by the team members, which raised an eye of suspicion on the dealers.
