Cabinet reshuffle on the cards in State; Tatkare may be next NCP state chief; Madhukar Picchad may be included in Cabinet

With growing buzz that a cabinet reshuffle is on the cards in the state, t
he ruling Congress and Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP) are also expected to overhaul their party units in the city and state, bringing party leaders into ministries and shunting incumbent ministers into the party organization.
Sources in the NCP tell FPJ that with the irrigation ministry taking flak over the severe drought in the state, irrigation minister Sunil Tatkare may be shunted out of the cabinet and into the state unit presidents chair.
After Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavans stinging remark that a white paper on irrigation should be published by the state, the NCP is looking to clean up its act in the crucial and cash- rich irrigation department.
” In such a situation it will suit the party to shunt out the minister and bring in a fresh face. That will close the chapter on these allegations of corruption and siphoning of funds,” a senior NCP leader said.
If Tatkare goes, current state NCP chief Madhukar Picchad could land up in the cabinet, courtesy his tribal card.
The veteran tribal leader has been out of the ministry ever since he became NCP state unit chief in December 2009. Pichad is a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Akole assembly constituency in district Ahmednagar.
Tatkare, who first became an MLA in 1995, has consistently been in the ministry as a cabinet member or a Minister of State ( MoS) since 2004.
