Ujjain : Tension gripped the old parts of the city including Chattri Chowk, Gopal Mandir, Mawa Bazar and other areas when some miscreants hurled stones over the rally of Swarnim Bharat Manch (SBM) near Hotel Laziz at Mirza Naim Beg Marg on Friday afternoon.

Police force quickly came in action to avert any untoward situation and SP MS Verma, Collector Kavindra Kiyawat, ASP Amrendra Singh and other officials rushed at the spot. SBM had organised a vehicle rally to submit memorandum to execute the order of collector for removing meat shops and slaughter houses from the 2 km area around Mahakal temple. When rally was passing through Mirza Naim Beg Road some miscreants hurled the stones on the last part of the rally around 4 pm near Hotel Laziz. Police quickly came in action and heavy force was deployed in the area. No injuries were reported in the incident.

News of hurling stones spread like a wild forest fire and traders downed shutters of their shops. Shops of the area were opened after SP and Collector assured traders that now situation has come under control. Meanwhile, memorandum was submitted to ADM Avadhesh Sharma by SBM functionaries in the presence of Joint Collector RP Tiwari amid heavy security arrangements at Kanthal Square. ASP Amrendra Singh while talking to pressmen informed that stones were hurled after some communal remarks were made from some youths in the rally. This incident thrown normal life out of gear as tension prevailed more than a hour in the area. Convener of SBM, Dinesh Shrivastav informed that rally was organised to execute the collector’s order as collector had issued the order to free the area from meat shops and slaughter house on November 25 but still order has not been executed by the officials. SBM has been fighting for the issue since June and prior to this organisation had also organised a 15 days long signature campaign in which more than 53,000 denizens supported the cause of SBM.
