Ujjain : Instead of bridging gaps, the revenue and police officials posted at the Ujjain headquarters are busy in mudslinging these days. Aggressed over the recent developments, Police Captain (SP) Manohar Verma advised the revenue officials not to execute their duties with ego. Replying to him in the similar fashion, District Magistrate (Collector) Kavindra Kiyawat commented that we should cooperate with each other instead of making competition.

The utterances of both the said authorities came during the meeting of Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee, which was convened at the Mahakal Pravachan Hall on Wednesday evening to take on record various preparations for the Lord Mahakal’s Shahi Sawari. The traditional royal procession will be taken out on September 7, but the offensive stance taken by the SP and DM in the meeting dominated the proceedings. The utterances of SP and DM assumed significance in wake of the verbal duel and manhandling which was occurred during the police constable Bhanwar Singh and additional collector Narendra Suryavanshi on August 19 during Nagpanchami darshan arrangements at the Mahakaleshwar Temple.

The SP had declined to initiate action against the constable while the DM formed a team comprising ADM Avadhesh Sharma and ASP Amrendra Singh to probe the matter. Since no conclusion was drawn in the matter, the revenue officials had taken a tough stand to execute their duties as per rules only. Both ADM and ASP were also present in the meeting, but they avoided talking to each other. Other officials of police and civil administration also kept distance from each other throughout the meeting, which lasted for about 90 minutes. When Kiyawat made some comments over different issues in the meeting and got a clapping from the members present, Verma complained to the members that nobody appreciated the duty discharged by the police during the Nagpanchami festival.

Manohar Verma, who use to remain calm and soft and that’s why was given posting here as the SP in view of the Simhastha Fair-2016, almost lost his patience during the meeting. He became vocal to make his submissions which were mostly part of his defence over the Nagpanchami incident. “Nobody is ready to appreciate our efforts for making such remarkable arrangements during the Nagpanchami festival…the in-house incident was given hype…why people go egoistic and create nuisances…one thing is crystal clear: the policemen on duty did not come there to make quarrel…why not such a sudden dispute was ignored at the spot itself which was fortunately the courtyard of the Lord Mahakal…whether we want to keep live such incident till our funeral procession,” Verma said.

After the address of SP, the DM was to make concluding remarks as he was to reply on all those suggestions which were given by the members during the meeting. However, Kiyawat appeared unhappy during the unexpected comments of Verma. Instead of saying anything about the preparatory meeting, he only said, “We should be part of each other’s work and should avoid competing with each other.” Wednesday’s development in the wake of Nagpanchami incident gave two signals very clearly: first, the differences still persist in revenue staff and executive force and so also among their local bosses and, secondly, if such a situation remain continue it will be quite difficult to ensure successful hosting of the mega international religions event (Simhastha Fair-2016).
