Bengali community of city of Lakes celebrated ” Jamai Shasthi”- Bengali festival dedicated to the sons- in- law- on Sunday.

Subroto Banerjee, of TT Nagar, said, ” My son- inlaw has arrived for this festival

from Delhi. There he works for a MNC. For alt39 Jamai- Shashtialt39, he came here and we are celebrating it with tradition fervor”. Rupali, Subrotos wife said, ” It is great day for us as. alt145 We give all respect to sons- in- law so that my daughter and son- in- law live happily. It is time to be with family. I have prepared fish- fry and rasogullah for him”. Jamai Sasthi is one of the most awaited festivals among Bengalis.

Lavish arrangements are made and the occasion is celebrated with great pomp.

A feast is prepared in the in- laws house. The staple Bengali food- fish, sweets and other delicacies are cooked.

Upon the arrival of sonin- law, fruits, dhan ( paddy) and dubbo ( grass) are given to the son- in- law. alt145 A alt39 photaalt39 ( drop) of curd is applied on his forehead and a yellow thread is tied to his wrist. alt145 There is also an exchange of gifts between the son- inlaw and his mother- inlaw.

Festivals are just a social occasion for a family gathering.

It is an event of sharing happiness with your family members and relatives.

Jamai Sasthi is one such Bengali festival that increases the bond of men with his in- laws.

The menu includes special Bengali dishes such as various fish delicacies, alt39 prawn malaikarialt39 special jamaishasthi alt39 sondeshalt39. Lavish gifts are given to the son- in- law and he too, in return, gifts his mother- in- law omething special.

For the day he relishes the attention he receives from his in- laws.
