Social media can trigger communal tension

Ujjain : Social media can create communal tension in the city after people misuse it by uploading objectionable pictures on social networking sites. Police would take strict action against those who misuse social media and disturb the communal harmony in the city.

These views were expressed by SP Anurag Kumar during a press conference at police control room in the presence of media persons, on Sunday.

The SP told that information is exchanged in bulk with the use of social networking sites like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, e- mail, etc. One should verify the information related to a particular community, religion or sect. People should strictly adhere to the rules of using the social media.

Anurag Kumar also informed that objectionable pictures and video footages are shared through social networking sites. It creates communal tension and disorder in the city.

There are provisions under Section 144 of CrPC to book those who misuse social media. District Magistrate has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144. A man from Badnagar has been booked for uploading objectionable pictures of a religious venue.

Group admin will be fully responsible for such type of activities on social media. People who circulate wrong information have been put behind bars. Action will be taken against culprit under Section 66A and 66B of IT Act and Cyber Law. There is a provision of three years of imprisonment for guilty of such causes. Media persons, ASP Rajesh Vyas, CSP Kotwali Mayank Awasthi, CSP Vijay Davar and others were present.
