Ujjain:  Registration for this year’s Sindhu Darshan Yatra can be made till May 30. Around 1500 pilgrims of all age groups are expected to attend the yatra to be organised from June 19 to 29. Rs 17,000 will be charged from each participant. The basic aim of yatra is to strengthen national integrity and promote cooperation.

This was informed by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti national president Muralidhar Makhija during a press conference at the Press Club here on Tuesday. He informed that the pilgrimage was launched in 1997 during the NDA regime. Efforts were made to derail it when the UPA came to power at the Centre and the Samiti started hosting it in on its own. Sixty two persons took part in the first pilgrimage while 825 persons participated in it the previous year, he informed.

According to Makhija, the pilgrimage will begin on June 19 from Jammu and interested persons would have to reach there by 4 pm on June 18. Sindhu Utsav, which features presentation of rainbow of cultural programmes by folk artistes will be the main feature of the pilgrimage and it will be organised from June 23 to 26 at Leh-Laddhakh and on the banks of river Sindhu. The to-and-fro transport, lodging and boarding arrangements will be made for the participants. Prakash Chittoda, Ishwar Patel and Puneet Sankhla were also present.
