SHIVPURI: The roads all across the city have been dug up for the sewer project being carried out these days.  The roads could not be reconstructed even after the project is completed because they would have to be dug up again for laying pipelines under water supply augmentation project. However, the water supply augmentation project is in limbo because the construction agency – Doshion Ltd – appears to have developed cold feet because of which the city residents would have to face a lot of problems during the rainy season which is not very far.

Some of the people said the water supply and the sewage projects have become bane of their life. The Shivpuri municipality had constructed the concrete roads all over the city at a time when the roads were to be dug up for water supply augmentation and sewage projects. As expected the newly constructed roads became full of deep trenches.

The tarred roads built by the public works department have also been damaged badly and the people face a lot of difficulties in thoroughfare. The deep pits in the roads which were dug for sewage project have not been levelled even after the work was completed and people fall in the ditches on the roads where the street lights are out of order. The dust lying on the roads is also a major cause of concern as it creates breathing problem.

Many people suffer from infections in their eyes while a number of others are contracting asthma and allergy. Collector RK Jain has admitted that the roads in the city could not be constructed before the work of sewage and water augmentation projects are completed.

The crisis has deepened because Doshion Ltd is reluctant to carry out the project. He said the talks are on with the construction agency and project would be started soon. The construction of roads would be carried out at the places where the laying of pipelines gets completed. However, the logjam appears to persist even during the rainy season and troubles would compound for the city residents.
