ng a fierce encounter on the outskirts of the Ratlam city on Friday evening.

Both the activists were later arrested and are being interrogated.

The Squad from Bhopal was reportedly following suspected SIMI activists Zakir Hussein and Farhad.

round 5.30 pm ATS team noticed two suspected persons near railway station and challenged them. While trying to flee, one of the suspects fired at the police. In a bid to escape, the suspected activists held an auto driver at gunpoint and fled away in his auto towards Mhow- Neemuch Road.

Members from the ATS team and local cops chased the auto- rickshaw, which stopped at a deserted location near a culvert, where an exchange of fire ensued between the SIMI activists and the cops.

During 10 to 15 minutes of encounter, three members of ATS team including Suresh Bingerwal, Shiv Pratap Singh and Dipendra Panchaal sustained bullet injuries while one of the SIMI activists also injured.

The injured SIMI activists were nabbed after the brief encounter.

The activist was identified as Zakir Hussien, who was a suspect in the murder of a police constable Sitaram Yadav a few years back in Burhanpur district.

The injured ATS constables were rushed to district hospital from where they were referred to CHL Hospital, one of the Jawans- Shiv Pratap- succumbed to his injuries.

Injured SIMI activist Zakir Hussien was shifted to MY Hospital on Friday night. Shivpratap hails from Gwalior and joined Sheopur district force in 2003. Seeing his good service record, he was included in the ATS squad two years ago. He is survived by wife, mother, sister and a daughter.
