Ujjain : “We are not here merely to watch the presentation of Simhastha development works, we are public representatives and want to inspect development works on the ground and then this issue will be discussed in the board meeting,” said furious Congress corporators in the Council meeting which was convened on Monday at Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC).
This was the reaction of Congressmen when the progress report of Simhastha development projects of UMC was kept in the Council meeting. Municipal Speaker Sonu Gehlot saw tough time to relent Congress corporators as they stood from their place in a protest. Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rajendra Vashishtha said that first booklet containing entire details of Simhastha project should be provided to all the congress corporators then we will conduct the inspection on the ground. Congressmen relented only after when Mayor Meena Jonwal kept the proposal of conducting inspection of development projects on December 18.
Before uproar in the meeting, Council passed the Smart City proposal but congressmen looked dissatisfied on this proposal too. LoP Vashishtha vociferously pointed that entire execution work of the project will be in the hand of bureaucrats and elected representatives are kept aside from the board authorized for the decision making. Council will operate like Private Limited Company, whose president will be the collector and municipal commissioner will be the CEO. Only the industrialists, builders, capitalists and other influential people will only be benefited through this arrangement hence representations of corporators should be increased in the board, he added.
He summarized his speech at the end and said, no extra tax should be levied on the denizens due to this project and participation of public representatives must be increased in the board so that values of democracy could be safeguarded.
