Ujjain : The Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) demolition gang, accompanied by policemen, demolished the extended portions of seven shops near the Harsiddhi Temple, here on Thursday, for widening the road.
The shops were built on the land of Loknath Pandya. Pandya tried to persuade the officials not to demolish the constructions by showing them papers, but authorities didn’t listen to his plea. According to Municipal Commissioner Vivek Kshotriya, a concrete road is being constructed between Harisiddhi Temple Square and Lalpul under Simhastha Fair-2016 work, but around half km portion of the work could not be completed owing to the constructions. He assured the shop keepers and others that the State government will soon provide them compensation. Though the owners had started removing the constructions on their own, the UMC employees did not take any chance and demolished the extended portions with three JCB machines. Boundary wall of the Ramdwara Ashram and Hanuman Mandir were also removed. “We were removing the extended portions on our own. These were small portions and there was absolutely no need to create panic among the residents of the area by bringing police force,” said a shop owner.
