Death underplayed by civil and police administration
Ujjain : A sanyasi of Niranjani akhara died under mysterious condition in peshwayi procession of Niranjani akhara held on Monday.
Death of Sanyasi was underplayed by the civil and administration department clearly due to the influence of akhara functionaries and not a whisper came out. According to sources, the heavily built sanyasi fell to his death from back of the horse he was riding for peshwayi procession. No case was registered and the police did not even cared for handling the case as it was related to big shot akhara and their maiden Simhastha event.
Police claimed that the sanyasi died after sustaining a possible cardiac arrest and fell of the horse after the peshwayi procession completed. After his death, the akhara functionaries silently took the body away, sent it off without handing it over to police. ASP Amrendra Singh, who was also present on the scene said, “The sanyasi which was not identified probably died of cardiac arrest, after sustaining the malfunction the sanyasi slipped from the horse and was immediately taken away by akhara mahants.” He said the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm after peshwayi procession completed. No post-mortem was made and the akhara functionaries took away the body to native place of the departed sanyasi.
On the other hand, mela in-charge Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri, of Niranjani akhara, said the deceased sanyasi Neeraj Giri, was already suffering severe health issues related to heart and kidney. He was told not to participate in the peshwayi procession, owing to his health condition, but the zeal of peshwayi took his life. He said his body was sent to Pichhore tehsil of Shivpuri located ashram for last rites. Deceased’s family members took the body. He came here some four days ago and was aged about 38 years.
