Multiple thefts in city, thieves target lone houses

Ujjain: House of a retired policeman was burgled by some unidentified miscreants at Dussehra Maidan area on Thursday night. Thieves barged into the house of Hukam Singh Panwar situated at  Dussehra Maidan area by breaking the back door and decamped with 2 gold necklaces, 6 tops, one gold chain and Rs 3.5 lakh in cash. The total loss has been pegged at Rs 5 lakh.

The incident came to light on Friday morning when Rajubai who lives alone in her house as husband passed away previously, was on a one night visit to her relatives’ home when she returned in the morning and found things scattered in the house. On receiving the information, the Madhav Nagar police rushed to the spot and collected necessary information.

It was found that the burglars barged into the house by breaking the back door and used dib to break locks, which they got from neighbours’ house. It is said that Rajubai is a lone woman who had saved the cash for purchase of a plot with her pension money.

Fingerprint experts have taken the samples and police have begun the investigation. Meanwhile, in another incident thieves struck the house of Babulal Malviya of Neemanvasa when family was busy attending wedding function nearby on Thursday. Incident came to surface when family returned in the evening. Booty worth lakh were stolen, as Babulal’s daughter was to be wed after 10 days and a lot of jewelries and cash including marriage goods were stored at the house. Chimanganj Mandi Police has registered a case in this regard and started the investigation. Exact amount of stolen goods is yet to be calculated.
