A land meant for educational purpose has been sold to a real- estate developer and that too at a throwaway price, keeping local caretakers in dark. The matter came to light when the local caretakers found

the buyers notice board on a structure over the land.

alt145 The Varanasi Lodgealt39of The Theosophical Society sold 50,700 sq feet land – market rate of which is Rs 50 crore – to Digiyana Real Estate Developers for only Rs 5 crore,’said Ravikant Pawar, secretary of The Theosophical Society, Indore Lodge.

According to information, the Holkars had given the land to The Theosophical Society for Rs 5,000 with a condition that only educational activities would be run on the space. The society wanted to use the land for the purpose it was allocated, so it did not give the land even to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in 1989 despite repeated request from the university, Pawar said.

‘But the Varanasi Lodge sold the land to Digiyana on December 1, 2010 for commercial purpose,’he added.

According to him, the Varnasi Lodge had to take approval from office- bearers of Madhya Pradesh- Rajasthan Federation, secretary S S Diwedi, local officebearers DR Vyas, NK Dixit, H K Shukla and SD Mishra.

‘The deal was done and kept under warp by the Varnasi Lodge office- bearers S Sundarma and V Narayan. So, its illegal,’Pawar said. The Indore Lodge officials stated that they were looking forward to move court in the matter.

Previously in 1991, half- piece of the societys land ( 50,000 square feet) was sold in the same manner by Mumbai Lodge to Alankar Real Estate. The registry of the land was being done in Mumbai so the Indore registrar office had slapped Rs 17 lakh penalty.
