. SURESH GOLANI Bhayandar: Strongly condemning the steep hike in petrol prices, activists of the Mira Bhayandar unit of the local Republican Party of India ( RPI) unit launched an agitation near Vardhaman Fantasy in Mira Road on Saturday morning.

The RPI activists led by RPI, District President, Devendra Shelekar, held ” Rasta Roko” in Mira Bhayandar, to protest the hike. Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt after RPI workers squatted road for over an hour. ” The petrol price hike has inflicted sufferings upon the common man as it would lead to a corresponding hike in the prices of essential commodities. It is the common man who has to suffer by paying extra for everything,” said Shelekar, who has threatened to intensify the agitation if the price hike is not rolled back immediately.

Youth murders trucker for seeking sexual favours Akola: A 36- year- old truck driver was killed allegedly by the cleaner after the former sought unnatural sex with the accused in Buldhana district, police said today, reports PTI. Mohammad Shahis Mohammad Kasam, a resident of Nagpur, was attacked with a tommy bar by the attendant Tarun Kumar Khosa ( 21) after he tried to force himself on him, they said. The incident took place at Mundada petrol pum on the outskirts of the city, police said. A case of murder has been registered against Khosa and he has been arrested, they added.

Man held for ferrying banned oxytocin injections in Akola Akola: The Food and Drugs Administration has seized a haul of banned Oxytocin injections and arrested a businessman from Bihar in this connection, authorities said today, reports PTI. On a tip- off, the FDA team, headed by Manish Chaudhary, intercepted an auto rickshaw near old railway station and confiscated as many as 155 boxes containing 70,500 injections of the banned drug, which is estimated to worth Rs 80,000 and arrested one Arun Sharma in this connection, they said. According to the authorities, the consignment was bought from Ambika Pharmaceuticals in Bihar and was to be delivered to a medical store and a distributor of pharmaceuticals in the city. Oxytocin is typically administered to bovines to increase milk output and increase the size of fruits like watermelon. The authorities suspect the injections are bogus, as they did not bear name of manufacturer and expiry date.

26- year- old woman charred to death Akola: A 26- year- old woman died of burn injuries when a fire gutted as many as five houses at Fulmuri in neighbouring Washim district, police said today. The deceased identified as Sujeta Ganesh Rathod, could not escape when the blaze started from her house engulfing the nearby shanties, they said, adding the cause of fire is being probed. A few thousand rupees in cash and household material, collectively worth around Rs 14 lakh, were destroyed in the incident, police said, adding the family members of the victim escaped unhurt.
