Ujjain : The 66th Republic Day of the country was celebrated with gaiety and patriotic fervour here. Cultural functions were held at government as well as private institutions across the city.
The main function was held at the Dussehra Maidan where School Education Minister Paras Jain hoisted the Tricolor. Minister Jain unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from the combined march past held by contingents of the civil police, traffic police, home guards, Nagar Sainik and NCC cadets. Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Department, Asha workers, Mahila Shaurya Dal, Suposhan Abhiyan, Krishak Mitra, Swachhta Prerak, Department of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture Department, Seed Producers and children of various educational institutions took part in the march past. Tableaux of various departments were also a part of the event. Paying homage to martyrs, freedom fighters and others whose sacrifices brought us freedom; the minister proudly said everyone should follow the path of our freedom fighters.
The Minister also read out the Chief Minister’s message. While schoolchildren presented a fascinating mass PT show and cultural programme, the minister honoured family members of freedom fighters and MISA detainees. Collector Kavindra Kiyawat, SP MS Verma and many senior officials were present. Padmja Raghuwanshi and Bharat Vyas conducted the proceedings. Different departments and school students showcased their talents at the parade grounds. Students of LOTI school displayed mesmerizing performances of Mallakhamba, Yoga, Gymnastics and PT. various schools participated in the cultural activities, the winner were given trophies and citation letter by the minister. Later a special midday meal was organised by at the Sudama Nagar located Government High School.
