Ujjain : The holy city will be witnessing grand Dussehra celebrations on Friday. Two Dussehra committees in city have planned organising separate ‘Ravan Dahan’ (burning effigy of Ravana) on the occasion of Dusshera.
Dussehra Utsav Samiti of Dusshera Maidan area have prepared 101-feet tall effigy of demon king Ravana will be set to flames amidst fanfare at Dussehra Maidan on Friday.
Samiti president Om Amarnath Khatri and patron Shiv Sharma in press release told that this will be 51st year of their successive organization of Dussehra Mahotsava. The ceremony was started by social worker late Lala Amarnath in 1963. Special guests for the occasion will be minister Paras Jain, Member of Parliament Dr Chintamani Malviya, Mayor Rameshwar Akhand, Senior congress leader Manohar Bairagi, MLA Mohan Yadav, DCC president Anant Narayan Meena, BJP city chief Ikbal Singh Gandhi and UMC speaker Sonu Gehlot. Collector Kavindra Kiyawat will execute the traditional pujan of Ram-Lakshman sawari (procession). Special fireworks have been planned this year, he added. The fireworks show will be started by SP Anurag. Artists Shri Sita Ram of Gwalior Bhayyu bhai of Dewas along with artists of Dewas is the lead artist in making of Ravana’s effigy.
Similarly, Vijaya Dashmi Mahotsava Samiti of Kartik Mela ground has prepared their own Ravana effigy. The main attraction for this year’s event is special makeup and decoration of Ravana.
This year Ravana’s outfit is themed upon Carnatic mythology, which first of kind for such occasion. Secretary Chetan Yadav of the organizing committee told that the programme started in 1983 in memory of late Prem Narayan Yadav. Eye catchers will be special 40 feet long fireworks that will create a waterfall effect upon lighting, also number of fireworks have also been increased this year.
Trained artists Madan Bhai, Ghotu Bhai and Pappu Bhai are preparing the effigy under guidance of Basant Yadav. Divisional commissioner Ravindra Pastore and municipal commissioner Avinash Lavania will perform the traditional pujan of Ram-Lakshman sawari.
