Apologises to families of those who may not get party tickets

Maharashtra Navanirman Sena ( MNS) leader Raj Thackeray is taking calculated steps considering the upcoming corporation elections.

The party has not declared its candidate list on Friday, as was being speculated earlier. The announcements are likely in a day or two. Thackeray on Friday apologised to the families of those hopefuls who would not get selected for party tickets.

Raj addressed his workers at Ravindra Natya Mandir on Friday. Workers who were expecting candidatures to be announced were in for an anti- climax as Raj declared at the very outset that he would not announce any names. He however said, ” All of you had prepared well for the exams.

Many cleared the exam with flying colours. But for those of you who didnalt39t, your family members are likely to feel a sense of loss for their son/ daughter. I share their feelings and personally apologise to all of you,” an emotional Raj said.

Raj later made lighthearted comments about his funny experience while interviewing candidates.

Raj revealed that party office- bearers have been given the highest priority in the list of candidates. But there are also some exceptions to this.

Observers say that the party is keeping its cards close to its chest. Not that it is facing any dearth of candidates.

One of the issues is the problem of caste certificates.

This has happened with all the parties, since the declaration of reservations. The parties do not want a scenario to turn out in such a way that the candidate announced does not have a caste certificate.

The MNS may also choose to announce candidatures to all corporations jointly. ” The list of candidates will be declared in a day or two. There is no dearth of candidates. In fact, we have a problem of plenty. All types of candidates are available,” said party leader MLA Nitin Sardesai.
