Ujjain : A procession to mark Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi was taken out here on Thursday. This was the first time in the city Milad un Nabi procession was taken out on such a grand scale, that it resulted in traffic chaos in the old city.
Under the aegis of the Seerat Committee and other Muslim Manchs the Muslim community members started the procession from Jama Masjid here and spanned through the prominent routes of the old city. Although, the police department had given permission to take out the procession, but to the confined limits. But, the regular procession which would have ended in three or four hours, lasted whole day and created numerous troubles for the commuters. However the organisers had appointed volunteers to ease any troubles but that was an exercise of futility, as the mass of community members had quadrupled this time. The police had tough time managing the crowd during the whole procession, which passed peacefully.
City quazi, Khaliqurrahman, who also participated in the procession, said Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is the festival that symbolises the greatness of Prophet Mohammed. They said the Prophet believed in oneness of humanity. They held that the Muslims world over were following the teachings of the Prophet for the betterment of humankind. Congress party welcomed the procession at the Gopal Chowk by erecting a welcome platform. DCC president Anant Naryan Meena welcomed the procession and afterwards the party workers distributed sweetened milk to the devotees. OP Lot, Mahesh Soni, Babu Moyyadi, Sushil Godha, Salim Gaswala, Arun Verma and others were present.
