Ujjain : With no official information provided on behalf of the police administration that who is conducting the probe into Monday’s lathi charge incident with the Kavad pilgrims, reactions poured in condemning the police excess.
SP Anurag Kumar, who was directed by the IG V Madhu Kumar to submit an enquiry report into the incident, did not respond to mobile call. Also, no confirmation received whether the IG actually issued order to enquire matter or not. It is recalled that at least 21 members, including children, of Indore’s Jai Shri Mahakal Kavad Mitra Mandal sustained injuries when dozens of policemen, led by an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer Saurabh Mishra, opened cane charge on them here on Monday morning. This incident occurred soon before the arrival of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan at the Mahakaleshwar Temple and the policemen on duty did this act in the name of making arrangements for the CM. Agitated over the incident, Kavad pilgrims staged a demonstration and also tried to stop the CM’s cavalcade later. Few media persons also came on the task of accused policemen for taking live shots of their shameful act with the disciples of Lord Mahakal and that too in the temple premises. On the behest of the CM, an enquiry has been ordered by the IGP in the matter. Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament Premchand Guddu, District Congress Committee (urban) president Anant Narayan Meena and MP Yuva Shiv Sena Gau Raksha Manch president Manish Singh Chauhan have strongly condemned the Monday incident. In separate statements, they demanded an impartial probe into the matter and to immediately suspend the guilty police officers. They also demanded the government and the administration to stop reoccurrences of such type of incidences.
