Discussion on states problems held in February

The fast of chief minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi may not have any specific demand but the demands for which Madhya Pradesh chief minister S

hivraj Singh Chauhan launched a fast are still unattended.

Chauhan decided to launch his fast in February, on the issue of Centres discrimination with the State but later he withdrew his fast on the assurance of the Prime Minister.

It is almost 7 months now, but the issues on which Chauhan went on a fast are yet to be settled. It is difficult to say about the success of Modis fast but had Chauhan not withdraw his fast, many of the problems, which are still reeling the state, would have been addressed. The state government, after the deadly spells of frost on crops and the farmers, had demanded a relief of Rs 2400 crore from the Centre. In response to it, only one meeting of group of ministers ( GoM) has taken place so far and the possibility of the second meeting seems remote.

As far as coal supply to the state is concerned, there is alt145 status quoalt39as the supply of the allotted quantity of 150 lakh metric tonne coal, could not start so far. Nothing concrete has taken place, in the issue of increasing food grain quota on the basis of BPL list and Indira Kuteer Yojana. Besides, M P Rural Road Development Authority is under crisis as it has not received funds for rural roads. Now, as the then Governor, Rameshwar Thakur, who played as a mediator between the prime minister and the chief minister, when Chauhan went on fast, is not in office, there is remote possibility that the state problems are addressed in the near future. The bad condition of national highways ( NH) has aggravated a plethora of problems. Union minister for road transport and highways, C P Joshi has only given the assurance to address the problem of NHs. In a political scenario, which is charged up with the fasts of Anna Hazare, Narendra Modi and Shankar Baghela, will chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also join them? None in the BJP government and the party organisation is in a position to comment on this important issue.

But one thing is there that Chauhan had only postponed his fast and not cancelled it.
