Ujjain : Pickpockets had a field day during the first palanquin procession of Lord Mahakal, which was taken out on Monday.

It was learnt that more than 10 persons were pickpocketed and the victims lost their mobiles and cash to them. The cops were busy handling the crowd and failed to act against the miscreants. Various shobha-yatras and other procession that are taken out in the city provide ideal grounds for gangs of pickpockets active in the city. It is another matter that such cases are not reported to the police because of the petty amounts involved. Nobody prefers to go to a police station to report a loss of a few hundred rupees and the pickpockets continue to thrive.

Gaurishankar and Ravi Sharma, residents of Mumbai, Dolly and Dwarka, residents of Indore lodged a complaint with the Mahakal police. The pickpockets are also targeting crowds outside religious places on certain days. Sources pointed out that at such functions the things, which are picked are passed on quickly to their accomplice who slip away unnoticed.
