Panic gripped the MP Nagar area when an engineering student opened fire during a clash which took

place over a petty dispute on Saturday evening.

Two students sustained head injuries while three others suffered minor bruises in the scuffle.

The police said the dispute took place between Prem Prakash Yadav and Rajesh Badhai. The altercation took an ugly turn. Yadav and Badhai are from the same village in Betul district.

Yadav is a third year student at Patel College while Badhai is a first year student of Radha Raman College. A few days back the duo had a scuffle when Yadav asked Badhai to pay him respect as a senior. Badhai refused, saying they are from the same village and are studying in different colleges.

On Saturday evening, Badhai was going to his room at Bharti Niketan Colony with his four friends when Yadav assaulted them with at least 15 other students who came on motorcycles. Badhai and his friends were beaten black and blue with bats and sticks. Hearing their cries, the local residents rushed to their rescue and tried to nab the assailants.

However, in a bid to escape from the spot, Yadav opened fire from a country- made gun, creating panic in the area, the police added.

The injured students were taken to JP Hospital and a case was registered against Yadav and others who are on the run.
