Ujjain : Elderly people and senior citizens were felicitated during a programme organised at Kalidas Sanskrit Academy on Wednesday to mark the International Elder Persons Day. Four elderly persons were honoured with ‘Shatayu Samman’.

Minister of school education Paras Jain, state planning commission vice-chairman Babulal Jain, MLA Mohan Yadav, collector Kavindra Kiyawat and others felicitated elderly people with shawl, garlands and mementoes. Addressing on this occasion, Babulal Jain said parents are supreme after God. To respect elders is our culture. Government has initiated various schemes for the uplift of elderly people. Kiyawat delivered the welcome speech. Kabir Bhajan singer Padam Shri awardee Prahlad Tipania performed on this occasion. Sevadham Ashram’s visually challenged inmate Bholi and Suman presented ‘Suman Kunj’ song.

105-year-old Atmaram Tipania, Basantilal, Dayashankar, Taraiya from Sevadham and Kashibai were honoured for completing hundred years of their life. Around 80 other elderly persons were felicitated during the programme. A medical examination camp was organised for elderly people at Madhav Nagar civil hospital on Thursday. International Elderly Persons Day was observed in the presence of Dulichand Lodwal at Desai Nagar. Ramchandra Nirmal, Kailash Badodiya and others expressed their grievances of the present time.
