Ujjain : The observers of the elections over the years say that the victory for the BJP is not as expected, or in true terms they said that the public had thought to change the arena for whole, but the Congress party was not seen ready by the residents.
The BJP candidate Meena Jowal got 1,34,976 of total 2,54,212 votes polled for the post of Mayor, which roughly comes to a figure of getting around 53 percent of total votes. The observers and seniors party leaders said that, although the victory margin is good but not as expected. They said the former mayor Rameshwar Akhand had won with a margin of more than 35,000 votes in previous elections. The BJP itself had calculated the victory margin of more than 50,000 votes.
The insiders say the Bairwa factor cost dear to the party, and the city itself contains huge vote bank of the Bairwas dedicated to the party but the alleged sidestepping of the community led to the fall in the victory margin. Meena Jonwal, who now has become First Citizen of the city, in fact belongs to the ‘Mahar’ and had committed love marriage with Vijay Jonwal, who is a Bairwa. This difference reportedly dissatisfied the Bairwa vote bank, which inevitably shifted towards the Congress candidate, Dr Kavita Gome, who despite of contesting the elections for first time gave competition and bagged 111,015 votes which comes as around 43 percent of total polled votes.
None of the above (NOTA) came as third favourite of for the 4229 electorates, who showed their trust in none of the candidates. NOTA accounted for 1.6 percent of the total votes polled. Further the BSP candidate Ramkanya Solanki got 3832 votes and accounted for 1.5 percent of the total votes. Independent candidates Anita Hindoliya and OP Vishwapremi got 2697 and 1692 votes, and shared the vote percentages as 1 percent and 0.6 percent.
