Ujjain: The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen ( NFIR) has decided to conduct strike ballot of Indian Railways on January 17 and 18 to take industrial action and resort the strike immediately.
N FIR vice- president and Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh ( WRMS) general secretary J G Mahurkar here on Thursday told a press conference that the strike ballot is being conducted to oppose the adamant attitude of the Finance Ministry which is not paying any heed on the recommendations of the Ministry of Railways on seven different issues.
He informed that the national convention of the NFIR, which was held on December 12 at Vishakhapatnam in the attendance of 15,000 workers from 16 zones of Indian Railways, decided to hold the strike ballot.
According to Mahurkar, who was here to take part in the central working committee meeting of the WRMS at the Railway Community Hall, informed that there are several anomalies and discrepancies with regard to the terms and conditions of the railwaymen and their facilities. He informed that after prolonged agitations, the Ministry of Railways accepted seven demands and also sent it for the approval of the Finance Ministry, but the latter is not agreeing with the recommendations. WRMS functionaries Jaswinder Singh, S C Khatwani and others were also present on the occasion.
