The Opposition SHIV Sena- BJP combine has planned to take on the State government over the fuel prices hike.
The Bharatiya Janata Party activists have begun protesting against the hike in all major cities in the state. The party activists in Mumbai undertook a cycle rally and march on bullock carts.
Even the MNS activists staged demonstrations against the fuel prices hike and its leaders Bala Nandgaonkar and Nitin Sardesai were arrested. BJP activists, led by former petroleum minister Ram Naik, were also arrested and later released on bail.
Never in the history of our country have we seen such severe hikes in fuel prices, Naik said.
Condemning the hike in prices of diesel, kerosene and LPG this week, a BJPSena statement said unless the prices are rolled back, the hardships faced by the middle class and the poor would increase. The Centre had increased the price of petroleum products 10 times in the last one year.
It has lost the right to call itself aam admis government and added that his party would conduct a statewide agitation this week. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday urged his party members to agitate against steep hike in liquefied petroleum gas, diesel and kerosene prices.
Pawar was addressing party workers near Pune, where he said they should connect with the masses and understand their problems.
Since the fuel prices have increased, the womenfolk have reacted sharply. The price of cylinders has been increased by Rs 50. I urge my party members as well as womenfolk in Maharashtra to launch an agitation immediately, Pawar said.
Pawar added that even though NCP is a part of the Central government, the party is against this hike.
According to him, women must launch an agitation against the hike in cooking gas price.
You must be wondering that we ourselves are a part of the federal government, but still we are protesting against the fuel price hike.
Anyway, the Congress doesnt seem to be concerned about the masses, Pawar added.
