Ujjain : Government of India declared December 22 as national mathematics day three years ago, but does the declaration has done the need full for legendary mathematician S Ramanujan. The answer is no.

Till date the legend in whose memory the day is celebrated every year, is yet to get space in the curriculums of CBSE, UGC and many universities, says Prof VK Gupta, HoD Mathematics Department, Government Madhav Science College. He said hundreds of seminars and workshops are organised every year, but a very few of them consider caring about Ramanujan. Prof Gupta, who has been invited for a seminar on the day by the Allahabad University, said the state government is one step ahead making things worse. The higher education department in their calendar has not even cared to mention the date as an occasion. Also they could have released a souvenir or magazine in memory of Ramanujan, but thoughts have been given for the purpose, by the responsible. He said the number theory of Ramanujan is making the calculations by machines possible, the whole world except us has been paying regards to him since 1936 and we have forgot our talent.
