The prosecution said that the accused had abducted Yousuf from a Dargah in Madurai in July 2010 and took him to a lodge in the southern Thoothukudi district where they killed him by slitting his throat with a knife. The couple had packed the severed head of the boy in a stainless steel vessel. They chopped his body parts and dumped them in different vessels which they placed in their hut for performing rituals hoping to alleviate them from poverty. Later they buried the vessels containing the boys body parts near the seashore in a coastal town near Thiruchendur.
