Ujjain : Though merely 9 days are left for the beginning of world’s biggest month-long religious event—SIMHASTHA MAHAKUMBH-2016—concerned officials appear least bothered about sincere execution of their ‘smart’ planning at the ground zero.
This was clearly evident during the maiden press conference convened by the Urban Administration and Development Department at the Simhastha Fair Office, here on Tuesday. The conference was organised to brief the media persons about the salient features of the ‘solid waste management’, which has been executed by two private agencies under the aegis of Ujjain Municipal Corporation for last six months. About Rs 40 crores are being spent on the particular head. But, ironically, none of the municipal officers found it suitable to turn-up in the conference and instead sent Chandramauli Shukla (Bhopal) and Vivek Kshotriya (Gwalior), who have been deputed as additional fair officers here recently.
Shukla, who was given the charge of solid waste management in the entire fair area, tried his level best to share details of the plan through power point presentation, but failed to do so in the absence of hard copy of the plan. He also seemed helpless to answer the pin pointed questions of the media persons, who were eager to know about the estimated lifting of garbage, etc from the fair area during normal days and during the days of Shahi Snanas. According to Shukla, everything is under control and the mosquito problem will be solved before April 20. He informed that about 2000 employees have already been deployed for the smooth arrangements and this number will cross the 5000 mark after April 20.
