Idukki district secy rapped for his controversial remarks that there have been instances of the party eliminating its political rivals
OUR CORRESPONDENT Thiruvananthapuram Amidst mounting demand for reinvestigation of political mu
rders in Kerala, the Communist Party of India ( Marxist) has reproached its Idukki district secretary M M Mani for claiming that the party had physically eliminated its political foes.
While the national leadership of the party has sought an explanation from the state unit, state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said Manis reported speech at Thodupuzha on Friday was not right.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Vijayan said Mani had committed a ” mistake” and his speech was a ” deviation” from the partys political line. He also appealed to the party leaders to be careful while making statements.
” Our opponents are waiting to strike at us. The leaders should not provide them weapons to further attack us.
Hence no one should make statements against the party line”, said Vijayan.
Vijayan did not go into the revelations Mani made about the political murders, which had sparked a row with the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP saying it exposed CPI- Ms ” politics of violence”. His statement had come at a most difficult time for the CPI ( M), which is already on the defensive in the brutal murder of rebel leader T P Chandrashekharan with many of its activists arrested in connection with the crime.
The central leadership of the CPI ( M), which had toed the state unit line that the Congress- led government was trying to falsely implicate the party in the Chandrashekharan murder case, has reportedly expressed its dissatisfaction over Manis statement, which is contrary to the partys claim.
Politburo member M A Baby refused to comment on Manis speech. He said that the party would verify the statement. Mani had said that the CPI ( M) had a history of handling political rivals and those to be killed will be killed again.
The revelation has evoked strong reactions from within and outside the state. Senior BJP leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said what Mani said was the language of the terrorists and Maoistis.
He has urged the Kerala government to initiate criminal action against the CPI ( M) leader, who is a close confidant of the party secretary.
Modi has also asked the state CPI ( M) leadership to explain the controversial speech. ” A CPI ( M) leader has publicly said they assassinate their rivals. Where is the National Human Rights Commission? We must speak out,” the Gujarat Chief Minister said.
