Indira Nagar dacoity: Police still clueless

Ujjain : Lot of activities have taken place following Tuesday’s sensational dacoity which was committed by more than six unidentified miscreants at the Indira Nagar located residence of joint-collector and Nepa Nagar SDM Suraj Nagar.

Suraj Nagar reached Ujjain at about 9 pm on Tuesday. On Wednesday evening, IG V Madhu Kumar along with SP Anurag Kumar reached at the residence of Nagar and talked to him, his family members and neighbours at length. Several TIs, CSPs, ASPs and policemen were present there. According to sources, the senior officials assured the Nagar family that the accused will be caught soon as they have got certain clues. During the talks, family members reportedly told the IG that the accused before leaving their residence had told them that they struck a wrong place as the accused were informed that Rs 2 crore had been kept in their house. A lady member of the family also disclosed that one of the robbers, who was about 35 years old and wore decent clothes, looked like an officer and rest of his associates appeared to be professional offenders.

On Wednesday evening, the Madhav Nagar police recovered an unclaimed Bolero (MP 37-T, 032), which led to speculations that the police have recovered the vehicle used to commit the crime. Notably, the robbers had used a blue beaconed Bolero and had introduced themselves as Income Tax officers. On being contacted, SP Anurag Kumar told Free Press that the recovered Bolero has nothing to do with the Tuesday’s crime. He also informed that passing of blue beaconed Bolero was noticed from Barnagar and Badnawar toll tax plazas, but they were not in a position to confirm that the Bolero used in Tuesday’s case was identified. According to him, the investigation may take some more time, but it is beyond any doubt that some close person of Nagar family was in touch with the accused.

Chimanganj Mandi police have not achieved any major breakthrough in the case even after 24 hours of the crime. “We are studying all the aspects of the case and investigations are being carried out in a rigorous mode,” said OP Mishra, TI, Chimanganj Mandi police station.

Prima facie, the dacoity was well-planned and was executed by professional criminals. Possibility of involvement of an insider cannot be ruled out and we are investigating the case from all possible angles, Mishra added. However, he refused to share any details of the investigation or clues saying everything would be disclosed only after a breakthrough. A dog squad was also called, but was of little help as it could not lift the scent from the crime spot for long. Police also claimed to have obtained photographs of the vehicle, a blue beaconed Bolero that was used by criminals from the toll booths of Chandukhedi and Badnawar. The local connect of the robbers could not be traced. Police are interrogating the locals and family members again to get further clues, said a senior police official.  Meanwhile, the police claimed to have got some leads from the Idgah and Agar Road that robbers had used as their route for coming and rushing away.

Meanwhile, SP Anurag Kumar ahs announced a reward of Rs 5000 on providing any clue about the accused.

After the directives of IG, he also constituted three different teams to disclose the crime. ASP (City) Rajesh Vyas has been appointed head of the committee. Three teams, comprising 27 personnel, will work under the CSPs. Team-A (investigation) will be led by CSP, Jiwajiganj; Team-B (arrests) will be led by CSP, Kotwali, Saurabh Mishra while Team-C (technical investigation) will be led by CSP, Madhav Nagar, Vijay Davar.
