RAJIV DINGRA SAYS THAT INDIA WILL GET REAL BROADBAND, NEVER MIND, IF IT IS FOUR YEARS DOWN THE LINE.

If you are the type who accesses Internet via broadband connection but gets frustrated because of sluggish speed then this news mig

ht cheer you up. The Indian government has accepted TRAI recommendations in the National Broadband Plan with regard to speed of broadband Internet. Its is stated that the definition of a broadband connection as 512 Kbps ( Kilo bits per second) is to be revised to 2 Mbps from January 2015. Which means that from January 1, 2015, the stipulated download speed for any broadband connection, either wireline or wireless, will be 2 Mbps.

So while this doesnalt39t necessarily mean that suddenly broadband would mushroom everywhere it does mean that the telecom companies wont be able to peddle slower connections in the name of broadband and the general internet experience will definitely improve.

Currently the country has 11.89M Broadband Users as per TRAI. The broadband penetration grew at an annual growth rate of 35.49 per cent since last year and if it continues to grow at the same rate then we can expect around 20 M broadband users by 2015 but this is assuming the 512 Kbps ceiling as the ceiling for a broadband connection.
