Ujjain: City police have arrested an idol smuggler from Gujarat following the recovery of Ganesha idol from three persons few days ago while they were striking a deal to sell the idol. The accused was produced in the local court and was sent on police remand till February 6.

According to Mahakal police incharge SC Sharma, a police team went to Gujarat to arrest the main accused in the idol smuggling case. Jahid, a resident of Baroda was arrested after they got clues about his involvement in smuggling the idol.

Police brought the accused Jahid to Ujjain on Monday morning and produced them in the court. On being interrogated, Jahid revealed to police that he had bought the idol from Sakra, a resident of Maisana, Gujarat, after paying Rs 40,000. A team of police would be sent to Maisana to probe further in the case.
