Ujjain : The Indore High Court (HC) on Thursday declines to grant a stay order on the final electoral rolls published in view of the Ujjain Municipal Corporation elections.
BakiraliRangwala, president of ManthanParmarthikSanstha (MPS), who had challenged the election process on the grounds of alleged faults in the delimitation of wards and number of dis-similarity of electorates in 54 wards, said that the HC gave its 7-page order and declined to stay the proceedings as the elections were to be held before August 11.
During one hour proceedings on Tuesday, the petitioner’s counsels Ashok Kutumbale, Ashok Garg and LokeshBhatnagar made various arguments before the double bench comprising justice PK Jaiswal and JK Jain. The counsels argued that the published electoral rolls were not according to the Census-2011.
On the other hand, Additional Advocate General Sunil Jain argued that the electoral rolls do not have any discrepancies and the delimitation of the wards could not be carried out in wake of shortage of time. He also cited certain rulings of the MPHC and Supreme Court in the case. After Thursday’s order, the State Election Commission is likely to issue the notification soon.
