Ujjain: Groupism marred the first preparatory meeting convened by the District Congress Committee ( DCC) in view of the Lok Sabha Elections at Rajiv Bhavan, Ksheer Sagar here on Monday afternoon. Some party leaders raised objection to MP Prem Chand Guddu’s habit of residing at Indore and forcing them to wait for him for more than an hour in the meeting. The meeting was to be started at noon.

Guddu told the party workers that they have a last chance to save their prestige as the Congress has already suffered huge debacle in the recent Assembly Elections. He also indirectly warned them not to sabotage his winning prospects and he knows how to deal with them after the elections.

The meeting assumed significance in wake of the announcement of Congress candidate for Ujjain parliamentary constituency.

Congress has fielded Guddu again from this BJPstronghold as he defeated the seven- time MP and former Union minister Satya Narayan Jatiya in 2009 elections. The BJP has yet to open its cards. The DCC had invited all former MPs, MLAs, office- bearers and those involved in poll management for the meeting. More than 350 Congress leaders from across the district reached at the venue well in time, but Guddu reached at the venue after 1 pm which invited wide criticisms.

Sources informed that Guddu reached late as he was at Indore. His close aides asked him to reach at the meeting immediately otherwise he might face the wrath of party workers.

The DCC had planned to give opportunity to three speakers including Guddu and DCC presidents Anant Narayan Meena ( urban) and Jai Singh Darbar ( rural) so that the meeting can be finished within an hour. But looking to the mood of the attendees about 38 persons were allowed to speak which extended the meeting for about 200 minutes. Supporters of senior Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia including former MP Satya Narayan Pawar, former MLAs Batuk Shankar Joshi, Rajendra Bharati, Kalpana Parulekar, Ramlal Malviya and Virendra Singh Sisodia remained conspicuous due to their absence.

Leader of Opposition in Ujjain Municipal Corporation Ravi Rai took it as an exception that Guddu resides at Indore and visits Ujjain every fortnight. Some others also held Guddu as responsible for the debacle of the party in Assembly elections.

Prominent among those expressed views in the meeting included Mahaveer Prasad Vasishtha, Manohar Bairagi, Mahesh Soni, ogesh Sharma, Sanjay Thakur, Vivek adav, OP Lott, Sultan Shah Lala, Soni Mehar, Deepak Mahere, Hemant Singh Chauhan, Shantilal Chhajlani, Sachin Patni, Mukesh Bhati, Ajit Singh Thakur, Vasudev Rawal, Rajendra Vasishtha, Shashikala Pathak, Nisha Tripathi, Sita Soni among others. Rajesh Singh Rana conducted the proceedings.
