Gold traders keep shops closed against imposing excise duty

Ujjain: Jewellers across the country kept their shops closed against the recent decision of Central Government of imposing excise duties on the gold trade. In the row, on the call of state wide ‘Bandh’ of Madhya Pradesh Sarafa Association gold traders of the city also kept their shops closed on Wednesday. Gold traders are taking the decision of imposing 1 percent excise duty on gold purchase as unnecessary intervention of Central Excise Department in their trade. Wholesalers and manufacturers of the gold ornaments also extended their support to the strike and kept shutters of their shops down. First traders had decided to keep shops closed for the three days but then decided to convene the meeting of the association on Wednesday evening for decreasing its time period. However, till filing of the news association has not taken any in concrete decision regarding continuation of the strike.
