though the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority ( MHADA) took an iconic step by canceling the allotments of the houses won by scamster Shashikant Kadam and other agents, the bureaucratic delays in the process would see an FIR being lodged only on Monday.
” Since the two officials who should initiate the action are not working, the procedure of filing the FIR would only be completed on Monday,” said Bhausaheb Dangde, Chief officer, Mumbai board. MHADA had announced on Wednesday that they would be canceling the 334 applications out of the total 425 filed by the scamsters, including the 224 houses that were won by them. While a detailed inquiry would be undertaken by the Mumbai board in the remaining 91 applications.
As per MHADA, they had ordered the Mumbai board to file an FIR with the Economic Offences Wing ( EOW) of the Mumbai Police immediately.
However the two officials concerned, including the marketing director Sangeeta Takle, who is gone for BMC election duty and deputy marketing officer Mankar who was on a leave on Friday were not available.
” Since they are the one under whose jurisdiction the matter falls, nothing could be done in their absence,” said an official from Mumbai board. However this has again raised questions on MHADAs seriousness as the bureaucratic delay has given a time of around five days for the scam tainted agents to flee away from the city. ” During such crucial cases, FIR should have been lodged earlier and then the matter should have been announced to the media,” said another official from MHADA. MHADA had taken out a lottery of 4034 houses in May 2011 and the authority received an unnamed letter in August claiming that 327 houses were won providing forged documents. However, when Mastek, the company that made the software inquired they said that 425 applications were forged with similar contact details and addresses.
