Mumbai: DJs and high- end music systems have become a part of Ganpati celebrations this year.

Ganpatis across the city are being welcomed with loud music.

While the organisers are having a ball, noise pollution norms have been sent

for a toss. And these scenes are not just for the homecoming, but will be repeated on the day of the visarjan too.

If the noise pollution norms are followed, several Ganapati mandals might have to face huge fines.

There are close to 20,000 Ganesh mandals in Mumbai and Thane alone and here, the festival is celebrated with great gusto. However, new- age celebrations are incomplete without DJ and music system, which have taken over from traditional music and bhajans. The permitted decibel levels are up to 50 decibels till 10 pm and 40 decibels beyond that, but the mandals donalt39t seem to be listening. FPJ
