Ujjain : City women celebrated Karva Chauth festival by fasting and practiced customary rituals for the longevity of their husbands, here on Friday. With the festivity of Karva Chauth, women were clad in traditional garments and performed worship of the moon and broke the fast afterwards.
Ladies from various groups and communities celebrated the festival of Karva Chauth together. Agroha Mahila Vikas Trust celebrated the festival at Agrawal Dharamshala at Modi ki Gali and worshipped the moon for the longevity of their husbands. President Geeta Mittal and secretary Jyoti Agrawal informed that women sought the blessings from the Goddess Karva for the longevity of their husbands. Punjabi Mahila Vikas Samiti members celebrated the festival at Ashray Hotel.
Local markets remained crowded throughout the day with women thronging to shop on the day of Karva Chauth. Women wanted to look their best on this day, which calls for a detailed shopping comprising colourful Indian attire and accessories to go with it like bangles, jewellery, make-up and shoes. Several shopkeepers had offered discounts. Sarees in chiffon, crepe, silk etc can be picked up at 20 to 50 per cent discount. To give women that stunning look, beauty parlours in the city offered an array of services at discounted rates. The services include hairstyles, facials, peels, spas, manicure, pedicure and make-up.
The gold which is now a day’s facing a lull was the favourite buy of the womenfolk. Henna artists can be seen in every nook and corner of the markets. Some shopkeepers had even called specialists from out of the State who cashed mint by decorating palms with intricate designs.
