FM meet with farmers yields no results

k: The ongoing onion sale strike has caused losses amounting to Rs 200 crore, market sources said. Farmers in the district are protesting the Central Government’s decision to ban exports because the Government felt there was a price rise locally. The strike launched since Friday is continuing for the ninth day on Saturday. The prices were normal around Rs 12 per kg. Farmers continued to protest the ban on exports at various places in the district. A meeting was held in Mumbai Saturday with the Finance Minister Pranav Mukherjee, but no decision has been taken, Shetkari Sanghatna leader Adv Nana Jadhav told FPJ. ACB arrests PWD engineer on graft charge Thane: Sleuths of Anti- Corruption Bureau ( ACB) arrested a Section Engineer of the Public Works Department on Saturday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a road contractor. According to ACB sources, Ravinda Morje, attached to Thane Zilla Parishad at Bhiwandi, was caught while accepting the bribe money from contractor Dhananjay Mali, Superintendent of Police ( ACB Thane unit) Deepak Sakore said. Further investigation is on.

Chembur youth held for killing girl

Thane: Police have arrested a Chembur youth for murdering a 25- year- old woman. The lady was allegedly killed by the accused after she repeatedly demanded to marry her. According to PSI JS Bade from Mumbra police station, the accused Ashraf Shaikh, 25, is a resident of Chembur while the deceased woman, identified as Aamrin alias Farah Lokapalli, was resident of Kurla. Her body was found near Mumbra Hills on June 8, 2011.

Kalwa firing, robbery case cracked

Thane: The firing and robbery at a jewellery shop in Kalwa has been finally cracked by the Thane crime branch. The cops have arrested six suspects and recovered stolen goods worth Rs 4.81 lakh from them. Acting on the tip- off, senior inspector DB Patil, from anti- extortion wing of the crime branch arrested the accused and seized from them 240 gms of stolen gold, a pistol, some rounds and a knife.

Constable hurt as villagers attack

Thane: Members of a police team, who had gone to raid a gambling den in a village near here, were attacked by local residents, leaving a constable seriously injured, police said on Saturday. A team of police personnel attached to Murbad police station had set out to raid a gambling dean in village Koravale on Friday.

New reservation office at Kandivli station

Mumbai: Western Railway ( WR) has opened a new Passenger Reservation Office on a foot over- bridge ( FOB) at the southern end of Kandivli station on Thursday.

There are two counters, which work in three shifts. While two counters are opened in the morning shift i. e. 8 am to 2 pm, one counter remains open in the evening shift i. e. 2 pm to 8 pm. With the opening of this new PRS, it becomes the 55th Passenger Reservation office on Mumbai Division. " This new reservation office is manned by an all- ladies staff. Before this, a PRS was opened at Mira Road in February 2011 which was the first PRS manned by all- women staff. Kandivli PRS is the second in this series," Sharat Chandrayan, chief PRO of WR said.
