IMPHAL: Two people were injured after four serial bomb blasts rocked Manipurs capital Imphal city and Thoubal district on Independence Day Wednesday, police said.

Though Singh said ” no one was injured in the incident”, other officials said two people were critically injured in the first blast at Mela Ground in Thoubal district town at around 8 am. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital at the district headquarters of Thoubal, about 50 km from state capital Imphal. An hour later, a series of three blasts took place in Sagolband Salam Leikai, Telipati and Yasikul in Imphal.

Villagers in Idinthakarai, Kudankulam, Perumanal, Kootapulli and Kuthenkazhi hoisted black flags at their homes, streets and fishing boats, activist M. Pushparayan told IANS. In Idinthakarai, a group hoisted a black flag at a public place, Pushparayan of the Peoples Movement Against Nuclear Energy ( PMANE) said over telephone. For the past one year, villagers have protested against the power project that houses two 1,000- MW atomic power reactors with Russian equipment.
Girl gang- raped in Assam
SILCHAR ( ASSAM): Close on the heels of molestation of a girl outside a Guwahati bar, another student from the city was allegedly gang- raped in Silchar, police said on Wednesday. The first year degree student of Silchar Womens College was going for private tuitions from her hostel when she was forcibly picked up by four persons in a car on the night of August 11. They took her to the remote Kumbhirgram Airport road and allegedly raped her. The girl, hailing from Uzan Bazaar area of Guwahati, has filed an FIR with the Silchar police station on Tuesday naming the four accused, including an advocate Dibyendu Jyoti Konwar.

HOOGHLY ( WB): Road blockade by Congress at Bandal in Hooghly district in protest against the murder of a local leader turned violent today leading to injury of nine persons, including four policemen. Superintendent of Police Tanmoy Roychowdhury said Dilip Paswan ( 55) was shot dead near Bandal Locoshed on Tuesday night by three men who came with their faces covered in a motorbike. In protest against the killing, Congress workers put up a blockade at Delhi Road at 7 am today. When a police team went there, the protesters started pelting stones to them injuring four policemen and set fire to a police jeep, Roychowdhury said. The police used batons to disperse the mob that also left five persons injured, he said. The SP said efforts were on to arrest the killers of Paswan and the situation is now under control.
Three killed in factory explosion
HYDERABAD: Three workers were killed and 12 others received burn injuries in an explosion in a factory in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when the workers were engaged in melting iron scraps in a boiler of the factory near Shadnagar town, police said. The boiling iron ore liquid fell on the workers as a result of the explosion, the cause which is being investigated, they said.
