Ujjain : Prices of soybean and gram crops slumped in the mandi during auctions on Friday. The farmers got outraged after observing a continuous decline in the selling price. They raised slogan and staged a dharna demanding higher prices for their crops, in Chimanganj mandi premises. According to mandi sources the selling price of local gram ranged between Rs 3200-3900 per quintal. Rs 3775 per quintal was average rate of gram, whereas on Friday rates of the crops slumped by Rs 800 to Rs 1000 during the opening hours of the mandi.
Congress leaders Kamalsingh Patel, Hemantsingh Chouhan and Iqrar Patel and leaders of farmers associations were involved in the dharna. Mandi vice-president Sheru Patel said auctions were stalled after agitaion. After two hour long agitation SDM and mandi secretary Rajesh Goyal intervened in the matter and persuaded the farmers. After his assurance farmers relented and participated in the auction, Patel told. According to mandi vicepresident finally good quality dollar gram was sold at Rs 4800 per quintal after the agitation. Patel also raised question on the intentions of grain merchants and said during the agitation Mahesh Patel, Shankar Patel and hundreds of farmers were present.
