Only last year, Eric Fernandes was states topper, but this season saw Noel Pinto taking a march over him as the duo set to meet again for the coveted mens singles title in the GSC- MSDTTA major ranking table

tennis tournament hosted by Goregaon Sports Club here.

This will be their third meeting of the season with Noel leading 2- 0.

Ironically, both Eric and Noel relish fast- paced strokeplay. In the semi- finals, Eric settled the aspirations of young gun Chandrashekhar Gole ( who had earlier beaten Noel in the under- 21 boys singles semis) in a tie that brought the best in Eric. His controlled aggression proved too much for Chandru as Eric was home with a 11- 8, 11- 7, 11- 6, 11- 8 win.

Not for top seeded Noel it wasnalt39t that smooth as Neol had to contend with another of his ilk – Dheeraj Rai.

Their tie played late at night had the crowd roaring with delight as both played some stupendous fast- paced rallies. As Noel derailed 1- 2 Noel hit back to win the tie 11- 5, 4- 11, 8- 11, 11- 7, 11- 6, 11- 6.
