Ujjain : The Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) on Friday removed encroachments from Harsiddhi Temple. A team of the UMC’s anti-encroachment cell removed encroachments at the Harsiddhi temple and its surrounding areas. Illegal kiosks were also seized during the drive.
In the anti-encroachment drive conducted by the UMC, illegal constructions were demolished. More than 25 shopkeepers, who had displayed them on the road beside the temple wall, were confiscated. The shopkeepers were issued a warning not to come back. The drive was initiated from Harsiddhi Temple and moved towards Mahakaleshwar temple area. The Municipal Corporation officials demolished illegal constructions, mostly raised platforms in front of shops and homes.
The basic objective of the drive was to free the roads of illegal occupation to ease the flow of traffic. Assistant Commissioner Subodh Jain said around two dozen encroachments were removed from the area. They had worked out a schedule for the drive and encroachments on the nearby area would be removed later on. According to him, the drive would continue as the UMC has plans to cover all areas and make the city neat and clean.
Collector Kavindra Kiyawat in the evening reviewed the cleaning work of Rudra Sagar. He was accompanied by UMC Speaker Sonu Gehlot, Commissioner in-charge Vishal Singh Chauhan and other officials. Collector asked the officials to complete the cleansing and beautification work of the ancient pond within three months.
