Div officers asked to conduct fair civic polls

Ujjain : State Election Commissioner R Parshuram directed the officials to take effective steps for conducting free and fair civic body elections in the division and follow the guidelines of Election Commission. Officials were also directed to conduct electorates’ awareness campaign.

While chairing a divisional review meeting with the officials at Brahaspathi Bhavan, here on Tuesday, Parshuram instructed the officials to complete all the necessary arrangements. He said arrangements should be made like Peepalranwa and Tonk Khurd of Dewas district where elections were conducted through electronics voting machines. District authorities had made best arrangements to conduct errorless polls. 92 percent polling was recorded in the constituencies.

It was informed during the meeting that strong rooms will be set up at civil body headquarters. EVMs will be stored at these strong rooms. Collectors were asked to go through Police Regulation Act. Poll publicity will be stopped 48 hours prior to the polling in urban body polls. Counting of votes will be done in three rounds for Janpad Panchayat. Details of expenses of Mayor and Municipal Council president will have to be presented. Postal ballot will be allowed only for civil body polls.

Parshuram said strict action would be taken against those officials who fail to perform as per the desired standards. He also asked the officials to complete the arrangements at the block-level. The nodal officers were instructed to submit the developmental report and route-chart to the additional divisional magistrate at the earliest. He told the officials to inspect the polling booths and ensure basic amenities at the polling booths in the district. All district collectors gave information about preparations. Divisional Commissioner Dr Ravindra Pastor, district collectors, deputy district election officers and others were present during the meeting.
