Ujjain : The administrative officials on Monday conducted the stand up meeting at the Dewas road. The officials including Divisional Commissioner Ravindra Pastor, Collector Kavindra Kiyawat, SP Manohar Verma and Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) Commissioner-cum-Simhastha Fair Officer Avinash Lavania had reached the spot to review the construction work of Dewas Road from Pipe Factory Square to Lalpur via Nagjhiri.

Divisional Commissioner Dr Pastor was seen disappointed after seeing the condition of Dewas Road inner four-lane along with the working style of PWD officials and told the officials to speed-up the work or they are going to face stern actions like a hold on their increments. Pastor was baffled with the answers of the PWD engineers, as like every time the engineers had concocted a story with a bolt. However, all the standup meeting or review calls seem to be going futile as it has been almost five years since the two most important roads, the Dewas Road and Agar Road are yet to be completed and the blame game of contractors and officials has hung up the work.

Similar situation was seen on Monday morning as the contractor of Dewas road four lane, Dinesh Sharma also approached the officers in the standup meeting and asked them to release the remaining payment of Rs 49 lakhs. Sharma silently complained about the commission of officials, said PWD is neither paying him his money nor allotting him new work, telling quality of work as the reason for the ban. However, any of the officials was not seen interested to question the related authorities for the delay in road construction even after both the incomplete roads have claims hundreds of innocent lives altogether.

City Beautification drive to get rid of encroachments

Taking a good move the officials discussed to launch city beautification drive and developing the main squares and junction glamorously. The officials said twenty five squares around the city will be rejuvenated and rotaries will be constructed where needed. The delay in beautification projects around the city is going to cost the government dearly in the Simhastha. Another reason of the delay in upgrading the facilities at the various spots is that most of the proposals to beautify the area and improve basic amenities there were not taken up due to an ownership dispute between the owners and Ujjain Municipal Corporation.

Officials were irked to see the encroachment by the local shop keepers and vendors in the Nagjhiri area who had encroached the whole footpath and even some part of the four lane Dewas Road. The encroachment was seen up to twenty feet from the road side, upon seeing this irked Collector Kiyawat strictly cautioned a hotel owner and directed some of the police men to remove the tables and canopies which were installed by the hotel owner. The officials launched an anti encroachment drive in the area and warned the residents not to cover the roads.

After wards seeing the stern attitude of the officers locals themselves folding their items back into their shops. Collector Kiyawat said most of the places in the city have lost their sheen because of the encroachment and we are going to remove it. The official said all the departments including police, civic, and revenue department will be asked to make joint teams to strictly deal with encroachers around the city. It was also decided that the Hat-Bazaar of every Saturday, which blocks the road on the day, will now be organized at the vacant land near Lalpur petrol pump.
