Ujjain : The total number of wards will be 60 for the coming elections of Ujjain Municipal Corporation. A notification in this regard had been issued earlier, but the Divisional Commissioner Dr Ravindra Pastor is yet to give his approval over the issue.
Certain alterations have been made in the geographical boundaries of the wards. A senior official said that to fulfill the demands of the political parties for rationalisation the population in different wards, some modifications had been made.
The changes have been made following recommendations of a committee on the delimitation of wards constituting municipal and administrative officials. The officer said wards will be demarcated according to their population to maintain the area and population ratio. As some of the wards in city have population of around 10,000 but some wards only have population around 6000, so new wards will be constructed to remove such lacunas.
Talking to Free Press, Dr Pastor on Friday said, the authorities had forwarded the proposal of demarcating the wards in the municipal corporation, with six new wards, but the proposal lacked the clear cut need of increasing the ward numbers. He also expressed doubts that wards were likely to be re-arranged unscientifically.
Pastor said, I have returned the proposal and have asked the officials to make clear provisions and data detailing the need of the new wards with formula for making new wards in respect to population.
