Even as the University Grants Commission ( UGC) is encouraging universities to organise conferences so that students can enhance their academic skills and
knowledge, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya ( DAVV) played spoilsport to its School of Biotechnology that was organising an international conference in November.
According to information, the university finance committee did not approve budget for the conference, subject of which ( Role of Biotechnology in Human Welfare) was of tremendous importance to science stream students and society as a whole.
Disheartened by the negative approach of the university authorities, the School of Biotechnology head Prof Anil Kumar alt147 postponedalt148 the conference and intimated scientists — who had given their consent to attend it — about the same.
However, sources in the university claimed that the department has actually cancelled the conference but to save the image of the DAVV at national and international level it informed the invitees that the conference has been postponed for time being.

Those assured to come from abroad included big names like Prof OP Rajora, Canada Research Chair in Forest & Conservation Genomics and Biotechnology, CONTD. ON P15
